Letchworth State Park, the easy way from Toronto
Letchworth State Park in Western New York is known as the Grand Canyon of the East: the Genesee River runs through a deep gorge over three major waterfalls, between cliffs as high as 600 feet in places, according to New York State Parks. It is about 255 km (160 miles) from downtown Toronto, roughly 3.5 hours each way with the border - close enough for a day, far enough that driving it yourself, crossing the border twice and walking the overlooks all in one day is tiring. TorontoBlackCarService.net books it as a private chauffeured day: the car leaves your door in the morning, waits at every parking area along the park road, and brings you home in the evening.
Plan on a 10- to 12-hour day. The USA hub has every American attraction we drive to; this page is the Letchworth day in detail.
A chauffeured Letchworth State Park day trip from Toronto is a 10- to 12-hour booking: about 255 km (160 miles) and 3.5 hours each way via the QEW, the Peace Bridge or Lewiston-Queenston, and roads south of Buffalo to the Portageville or Castile entrance. An Executive Sedan is $135-$160 an hour, so ten hours is $1,350-$1,600 (engine quotes, 8 October 2026, before 13% HST and gratuity).

What you see at Letchworth
The park runs for miles along both rims of the Genesee gorge, and the main park road on the west side links a string of overlooks and parking areas. The three named falls are the draw: the Upper Falls and the Middle Falls at the southern end near the Genesee Arch Bridge and the historic Glen Iris Inn, and the Lower Falls further along the gorge, reached from the Castile side. New York State Parks lists the park's entrances by what each is closest to:
| Entrance | Closest to |
|---|---|
| Portageville (south) | Glen Iris Inn, Museum, Middle and Upper Falls, Genesee Arch Bridge |
| Castile (south) | Visitor Center, Lower Falls, Humphrey Nature Center, cabins |
| Mount Morris (north) | G.W. Harvey Swimming Pool, Highbanks Recreation Area |
| Perry (west) | Highbanks Camping Area |
For a first visit from Toronto, the chauffeur usually enters at Portageville for the Upper and Middle Falls and the Inn, works north along the park road with stops at the overlooks, and leaves by Castile after the Lower Falls - so you never walk back to a car; the car comes to you. The Glen Iris Inn, the restored historic inn by the Middle Falls, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from May through October and has rooms if you would rather stay the night. The Humphrey Nature Center, open daily 10 am to 5 pm year-round, has exhibits on the park's geology and wildlife, and the park museum is open 10 am to 5 pm from May through October.
Hours, fees and seasons
The park is open year-round, 6 am to 11 pm daily, at 1 Letchworth State Park, Castile, NY 14427. The vehicle entrance fee is $10 per vehicle and $35 for buses, collected from 9 am to 5 pm daily during the main season (8 May to 18 October in 2026), per New York State Parks. Our vehicles pay the passenger-vehicle fee; ask the desk how a Sprinter is classed at the gate on your date. The fee is paid at the gate.
Fall colours. Late September through October is the season most Toronto clients ask about, when the hardwoods along the gorge turn and the overlooks fill. The park runs a free ADA-accessible shuttle on the first three weekends of October, 11 am to 5 pm, which tells you how busy those weekends are. Go on a weekday if you can; leave Toronto early either way.
Summer brings green canyon walls, the swimming pool at the north end and long evenings. Spring brings the highest water over the falls. Winter is quieter: the park lists snow tubing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, but some facilities close, and the drive itself depends on the weather south of Buffalo - the dispatcher will be honest about a snow-belt forecast.
The drive: route, distance and border
| Leg | Distance | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Union Station to the Peace Bridge | about 160 km (100 mi) | 1 h 40 off-peak |
| Border crossing | - | 10 to 45 min |
| Buffalo to Letchworth via the I-190, NY-400 and local roads | about 100 km (60 mi) | 1 h 20 |
| Toronto to the park, total | about 255 km (160 mi) | about 3.5 h |
The usual route is the QEW to the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie, the I-190 into Buffalo, then the NY-400 south through the suburbs and country roads through Wyoming County to the park's southern entrances. When the Peace Bridge is backed up, the chauffeur crosses at Lewiston-Queenston instead and loops around Buffalo. The New York State Thruway is cashless if the route uses it, per the Thruway Authority, and any tolls are shown at booking; the 407 in Ontario is used only if you choose it.
Documents. Every passenger needs an accepted document for the land border: for Canadian citizens, CBP accepts a valid passport or a NEXUS card, and Canadian children under 16 may show a birth certificate. A child with one parent should carry a consent letter from the other. The NEXUS lane is only for a car in which every passenger holds NEXUS. Live waits are at bwt.cbp.gov.
A sample Letchworth day
7:30 am pickup in Toronto. 9:00 a coffee stop before the bridge. 9:30 cross at the Peace Bridge. 11:00 enter at Portageville: the Upper Falls and the Arch Bridge view, then the Middle Falls. 12:30 lunch at the Glen Iris Inn in season, or a picnic. 2:00 the overlooks north along the park road, the car moving between them. 3:30 the Lower Falls area and the Humphrey Nature Center. 4:30 leave by Castile. 6:00 cross back into Canada. 7:30 pm home. That is a twelve-hour booking; drop the Lower Falls and lunch at the Inn and it is ten.

The rates page explains the hourly number.
Combine Letchworth with another stop
Letchworth sits between Buffalo and Rochester, so it pairs well with a night away: Letchworth on day one and the Finger Lakes wineries on day two, or a Letchworth day and a night in Rochester before a flight from ROC. On the way home, Darien Lake is in the same corner of Western New York, and Buffalo's Walden Galleria is on the road back for anyone who wants to shop. Overnight trips and a second chauffeur are available on request; the travel desk books hotels through BookingWorldwide.net.
Which vehicle
An Executive Sedan for two or three. A Business SUV or Escalade for a family, for hiking boots and a cooler, and for October mornings that can be wet. An Executive Sprinter for up to twelve - a photography club, a seniors' outing, an extended family - see group Sprinter service. Child seats are $25 each in the booker. Accessibility: the park's October shuttle is ADA-accessible, and a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available on request from us - call the desk ideally 48 hours ahead. Details on the fleet page.
What to bring
Comfortable shoes with grip - the overlooks are paved, but the trails into the gorge are not, and spray from the falls makes stone wet. Layers: the gorge rim can be cooler and windier than Toronto, especially on an October morning. Water and snacks for between stops, though the car carries bottled water. A camera with a wide lens for the Arch Bridge view and the gorge. Passports for everyone, including children, in one bag the chauffeur can collect at the booth. If you are buying anything in the US, keep receipts together for the declaration on the way home. Pets travel with prior approval, and the park has its own rules on pets, so check before you bring a dog.
Letchworth or Niagara Falls?
Both are waterfalls; they are different days. The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is 130 km away with no border, enormous falls, boats, restaurants and crowds, and fits in eight hours. Letchworth is twice the distance with a border, but it is a long, quiet canyon with several falls, forested rims, a historic inn and room to walk, and in October it is one of the best colour drives in the region. Choose Niagara for a first-time visitor, a short day or a family with small children; choose Letchworth when the group has seen Niagara, wants to hike, or wants the fall colours without the Clifton Hill noise. The Niagara Falls USA side page covers the American view of the big falls, which some clients add on the way back.
Coming home
The chauffeur picks the crossing with the shortest queue for the return. The Canada Border Services Agency asks each traveller how long they were away and what they are bringing back; on a same-day trip there is no alcohol or tobacco allowance and the general exemption is limited, as the CBSA's guide for returning residents explains. Declare purchases honestly and answer the officer briefly; the chauffeur handles the vehicle's documents.
Groups, schools and clubs
Letchworth is a popular outing for hiking clubs, photography groups, seniors' associations and families gathering from across the GTA. One Executive Sprinter carries twelve with their packs and tripods, collects from two or three addresses on the way out of the city if needed, and keeps the group on one timetable at the overlooks. For larger groups the desk can arrange two Sprinters travelling together. Every passenger needs their own border document, so the organiser should collect names and nationalities when booking and put them in the booking notes; the desk flags anything unusual before the day. The organiser gets every update by text, and the chauffeur handles the rest.

Let the car do the walking back. Letchworth's overlooks are strung along miles of park road, and the falls are at different ends of it. Driving yourself means walking back to a parked car or moving it a dozen times; with a chauffeur you step out at one viewpoint and back in at the next, and you arrive home having looked at the gorge rather than the road.

LimousineWorldwide.Directory
Our listing in the worldwide directory is how a Toronto client who keeps a chauffeur by the hour here can do the same in Vancouver, London or Dubai through a vetted operator. Every Canadian city and every country on this site is served through that network.
