Shared shuttle or private car
If you live in Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Stratford or London, getting to Pearson means choosing between a shared airport shuttle and a private car. People search for a Burlington airporter, a Stratford airporter, a Kitchener Waterloo airport shuttle, or simply an airport shuttle service Toronto travellers can rely on - and the right answer depends on how many of you are travelling, what time the flight leaves and how much the door-to-door part matters. This page is an honest comparison. We sell the private car, and we will tell you when the shuttle is the better buy.
A shared scheduled shuttle runs to a timetable or a booking window, collects several unrelated passengers along a route, and drops them at the terminals. You pay per seat. A private black car is booked for your party alone, leaves your door at the time you choose, goes straight to your terminal and is priced per vehicle. Both are legitimate; they solve different problems.

How shared airport shuttles generally work
Most shared airport shuttles in southwestern Ontario follow a similar pattern, though each operator sets its own rules and you should read theirs. Departures leave at set times or within booking windows. Pickups are either at a fixed point - a hotel, a GO station, a park-and-ride lot - or door to door with other passengers collected on the way, which can add stops and time. Bookings often close a set period before travel. The vehicle is a van or minibus, and luggage allowances are usually stated per passenger.
One example that we checked on its own site on 8 October 2026: the Stratford Airporter describes transportation between Toronto Pearson and the Stratford area for individuals or groups of up to 24, with online reservations. Public transit is the other option for some towns - GO Transit's Route 40 bus, for example, links Hamilton GO Centre with Pearson's Terminal 1 - and it is the cheapest way to reach the airport if your timing and luggage allow. We have not listed shuttle fares here because they change and are not ours to quote; check the operator's own site.
Distances and drive times to Pearson
The private-car number starts with the distance. These are road distances from each town centre to Pearson and typical off-peak drive times; the QEW, the 401 and the 403 at rush hour add 20 to 45 minutes.
| From | Road distance to Pearson | Typical off-peak drive | Main route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oakville | 34 km | 35 min | QEW, 403 or 407, 401 |
| Burlington | 50 km | 45 min | QEW or 407, 403, 401 |
| Hamilton | 60 km | 55 min | 403, QEW or 407, 427 |
| Guelph | 71 km | 1 h 05 | Hwy 6, 401 |
| Kitchener | 85 km | 1 h 10 | 401 |
| Waterloo | 90 km | 1 h 15 | 85, 401 |
| Stratford | 127 km | 1 h 50 | Hwy 7/8, 401 |
| London | 173 km | 2 h 10 | 401 |
A shared airport shuttle to Pearson is usually cheaper for one traveller with flexible timing; a private car usually wins for a family of three or four, for flights before 8 am, for heavy luggage and for anyone who needs door-to-door service without other stops. From Burlington it is 50 km and about 45 minutes; from Kitchener 85 km and 70 minutes; from London 173 km and just over two hours.
When the shared shuttle is the better buy
Be honest about the trip. The shuttle is usually the right answer when:
- You are one person. A per-seat fare for a solo traveller is very hard for any private vehicle to beat, because the private car is priced for the whole vehicle whether one person sits in it or four.
- Your flight time fits the timetable. If a scheduled departure gets you to Pearson with the right margin, you lose nothing by sharing.
- You travel light. A carry-on and a backpack fit any shuttle's allowance.
- The extra stops do not matter. If you have a book and no deadline, ten more minutes collecting other passengers costs nothing.
- There is a fixed pickup point near you. A shuttle stop or a GO bus near your home turns the shared option into almost door to door.
When a private car wins
The private car earns its fare in these situations, and they are common:
- A family of four. Four per-seat shuttle fares, each way, plus the drive to the pickup point, against one vehicle priced per trip. Multiply the shuttle's per-seat fare by the number travelling, compare it with the flat fare the engine quotes for your address, and the answer is usually clear.
- Early flights. A 7 am international departure means being at Pearson around 4 am, which means leaving Kitchener around 2:45 am or London around 1:45 am. Shuttle timetables rarely fit that well; a private car leaves when you need to.
- Door to door. No drive to a pickup point, no parking a car for two weeks, no waiting at a hotel lobby. The chauffeur is at your door, carries the cases and drops you at your airline's door.
- Luggage and children. Five cases, a stroller and two car seats do not fit a shared van politely. A black SUV takes them, and child seats are $25 each, fitted before pickup - the car seat page explains which seat for which age.
- Coming home late. A delayed flight landing at 1 am can miss the last shuttle. A private car tracks the flight and waits: 30 minutes free on domestic arrivals and 45 on international, from the actual landing.
- Mobility needs. A traveller who uses a wheelchair or walks slowly does better without a shared van's stops; call the desk ideally 48 hours ahead to arrange a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
- A group of eight to twelve. One Executive Sprinter priced per vehicle is a private shuttle for your group alone.
Town by town
Burlington and Oakville
People in Burlington often search for a Burlington airporter, meaning a shared run to Pearson. The distance is the case for a private car: Burlington is about 50 km and 45 minutes from Pearson, Oakville about 34 km and 35 minutes. At those distances a private sedan for two is often close to two shuttle seats once you count the drive or taxi to a pickup point. The 407 cuts the QEW queue in the morning and is used only if you choose it, with the toll shown at booking.
Hamilton
From Hamilton it is about 60 km and 55 minutes to Pearson. GO Transit's Route 40 bus from Hamilton GO Centre is the budget option; a private car is the door-to-door one. Hamilton travellers flying Porter or to the United States should also look at their other airports - the Hamilton and Buffalo airport page compares them.
Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph
The Kitchener Waterloo airport shuttle question comes up most from students, faculty and tech workers. Kitchener is about 85 km and 70 minutes from Pearson on the 401, Waterloo about 90 km, Guelph about 71 km. A student flying home alone should take the shuttle. A visiting professor landing at midnight, an executive with a 6 am flight, or a family of four should compare the private fare. The Kitchener-Waterloo page covers the drive for a day trip as well.
Stratford
Stratford is about 127 km and 1 hour 50 from Pearson. Festival visitors flying in often use the Stratford Airporter; a couple with luggage, or a group of four arriving for a week of theatre, can be met at arrivals and driven to the hotel door. The Stratford page covers the town and the Stratford Festival publishes its own getting-here advice.
London
London is about 173 km and 2 hours 10 from Pearson on the 401. For one traveller the shuttle or the train is cheaper; for a family flying out at 7 am, the private car leaving at 1:45 am is the one that gets everyone there awake enough to check in. The city-to-city page explains long one-way fares.
What a private car to Pearson costs
A one-way transfer to Pearson from any of these towns is a flat fare by address and class, quoted in the reservation engine before you confirm, with the car's return built in. For scale, the 27 km Union Station to Pearson run was quoted on 8 October 2026 from $140-$170 in an Executive Sedan, from $180-$215 in a Business SUV, from $230-$275 in an Escalade and from $380-$455 in the Executive Sprinter, all before 13% HST and gratuity. Longer runs from Hamilton, Kitchener or London cost more, and the booker shows the exact fare for your address and date.
For an out-and-back where the car waits - seeing someone off and driving home, or a London trip with a stop - the hourly rates of 8 October 2026 apply: Executive Sedan $135-$160 an hour, Business SUV $175-$210, Escalade $225-$270, with a three-hour minimum for sedans and SUVs. Three hours in a sedan is $405-$480; five hours, the length of a London round trip, is $675-$800. The rates page explains hourly pricing.
| Situation | Usually better | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One person, light bag, daytime flight | Shared shuttle or GO | Per-seat fare is hard to beat |
| Couple, daytime flight, near a pickup point | Compare both | Two seats can match a sedan fare |
| Family of four with luggage | Private car | One vehicle fare against four seats |
| Flight before 8 am | Private car | Leaves your door when you need it |
| Late arrival, flight may be delayed | Private car | Flight tracked, free waiting |
| Group of 8 to 12 | Executive Sprinter | Private shuttle priced per vehicle |
Parking at Pearson versus a car to the door
The third option most families weigh is driving themselves and parking. For a week or two away, airport parking adds up, and the drive home after a long-haul flight is the part nobody enjoys. A private car avoids both: the chauffeur collects you at your door, and on the way home tracks the flight, meets you and drives while you sleep. Compare the parking cost for your dates with a return private transfer, and remember that the transfer also removes the tired drive.
Shuttles near me: what to check before you book anything
Whether you choose a shuttle or a car, ask the same five questions. Is the price per seat or per vehicle, and does it include tax and gratuity? What happens if the flight is delayed on the way home? Where exactly is the pickup, and how long before the flight? What does cancelling cost? Who answers the phone at 3 am? Our answers: per vehicle, shown before you confirm, before HST and gratuity; the flight is tracked with 30 or 45 minutes free from landing; your door, at the time you choose; more than 72 hours before pickup no charge, 72 hours or less 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%; and the desk on (833) 931-6688 or WhatsApp +1 647-667-7689, 24/7.
On the way home, Pearson's pre-arranged services page names the pickup area for pre-booked cars; add meet and greet and the chauffeur waits inside arrivals with your name instead.

Do the four-seat sum. Before booking anything for a family, multiply the shuttle's per-seat fare by everyone travelling, add the drive or taxi to its pickup point, and compare that total with the flat fare in our booker. For one person the shuttle almost always wins; for four, it often does not.
Airport shuttle alternative: questions answered
Is a shared airport shuttle cheaper than a private car to Pearson?
For one traveller, almost always - shuttles charge per seat and a private car is priced per vehicle. For a family of three or four, multiply the per-seat fare by everyone travelling and compare it with the flat fare the engine quotes for your address; the private car is often close or cheaper.
How far is Burlington from Pearson airport?
About 50 km by road and typically 45 minutes off-peak by the QEW or the 407, the 403 and the 401. Morning rush on the QEW can add 20 to 40 minutes; the 407 is used only if you choose it, with the toll shown at booking.
Is there a Kitchener-Waterloo airport shuttle to Pearson?
Shared shuttles are one option for the Kitchener-Waterloo to Pearson trip; check any operator's own site for times and fares. A private car covers the 85 to 90 km in about 70 to 75 minutes off-peak and leaves your door at the time you choose.
Can you pick up from Stratford for an early flight at Pearson?
Yes. Stratford is about 127 km and 1 hour 50 from Pearson, so a 7 am international flight means leaving around 2:15 am. The engine quotes the flat fare for your address before you confirm.
What happens if my flight home is delayed?
The flight is tracked and the pickup moves with it. Free waiting runs from the actual landing: 30 minutes for domestic arrivals and 45 for international, so a late landing does not leave you hunting for a ride at midnight.
Can a private car take car seats and lots of luggage?
Yes. Child seats and toddler seats are $25 each, fitted before pickup. A Business SUV or Escalade takes a family's luggage and a stroller; the Executive Sprinter takes groups of eight to twelve with bags.
Do you offer a shared shuttle?
No. Every booking is a private vehicle for your party alone, priced per vehicle. For a group, the Executive Sprinter works as a private shuttle for up to twelve people.
How much is a private car from London, Ontario to Pearson?
London is about 173 km and 2 hours 10 from Pearson. The one-way transfer is a flat fare quoted in the booker before you confirm, before 13% HST and gratuity; an out-and-back by the hour is five hours in a sedan, $675-$800 at the 8 October 2026 rates.
Four rules. No small print.
The hourly minimums are the ones printed in our terms; the rate for each class is quoted live by the reservation engine for your date. The rates page explains what moves it.

Hourly time starts at the pickup address, not at our garage. Garage travel, where it applies, is shown at booking in 30-minute blocks - never a surprise on the invoice.
Overtime rounds to the hour
Run past the reserved block and the extra time is billed to the next full hour at the same rate, with tax and gratuity as on the original booking.
Waiting is included
Hourly means the car waits. The meeting that runs long, the dinner that runs late, the second stop you did not plan - the chauffeur is outside, the clock simply continues.
