Ottawa by road
Ottawa is four hundred and fifty kilometres from Toronto - the 401 east to Prescott and the 416 north to the city - and four and a half hours off-peak in a chauffeured car, which is longer than the flight and, door to door for two or three people with a working day in the back of an S-Class, closer than people expect. Toronto companies, law firms, associations and consultancies send people to the capital every week for government meetings, hearings, lobbying days and conferences, and the chauffeured drive is the version where the briefing is read on the 401 and the car is at the Chateau Laurier's door rather than at YOW's taxi rank. A Toronto-to-Ottawa booking is a one-way flat fare fixed by route and class, or an overnight with the chauffeur staying, and the city-to-city page explains when each is the better number. For the hourly day in Ottawa itself, the Ottawa city page covers the local chauffeur on the same account.

The drive
The 401 east past Kingston and Brockville to Prescott, then Highway 416 north through Kemptville to Ottawa's west end and the 417 into the centre. Four and a half hours off-peak, five and a quarter leaving Toronto on a Friday afternoon or arriving in Ottawa at 5 pm. No tolls; the 407 across the top of Toronto is optional and worth it from the north or east of the city. Kingston is the lunch stop at two hours fifty; a flat fare includes a comfort break and an hourly booking stops as you like. In winter the 401 east of Cobourg and the 416 through Kemptville are the stretches that close in a squall; the dispatcher watches Ontario 511 and the SUV, with winter tyres, is the car.
The drive versus the flight
Air Canada and Porter fly Toronto-Ottawa in an hour and five minutes from Pearson and Billy Bishop. Door to door - the hotel to Billy Bishop (fifteen minutes), check-in and security (an hour), the flight, YOW to the Hill (twenty-five minutes) - is three hours on a good day with a taxi at each end and a delayed flight a lost meeting. The chauffeured drive is four and a half hours door to door with the passenger working, no airports, no security and the same car at the Ottawa hotel that evening. For one traveller in a hurry the flight usually wins; for two or three with luggage or a day's work to do, the drive is competitive on time and better on everything else; for a team of six to twelve in a Sprinter it is cheaper as well. Bad weather, which Ottawa has, tips it further: a snowstorm cancels flights and merely slows a car.
Government days in the capital
Parliament Hill and the Wellington Building, the Senate at the old train station, the departmental towers at Tunney's Pasture and Place du Portage across the river in Gatineau, the Supreme Court, the embassies along Sussex Drive, the associations on Sparks and Albert, the Shaw Centre for conferences, the Chateau Laurier, the Westin and the Lord Elgin for the hotels. A Toronto delegation drives up on Monday evening as a one-way flat fare, books a local chauffeur for the Tuesday hourly day - six meetings between the Hill and Tunney's, timed like a roadshow - and drives home Tuesday evening as a second flat fare, all on the corporate account. The Ottawa city page has the local detail: Wellington Street's security closures, the Sparks Street mall, the Gatineau crossings.
A chauffeured Toronto-to-Ottawa drive is 450 km east on the 401 and the 416 - four and a half hours off-peak - booked as a one-way flat fare or an overnight with the chauffeur staying. For two or three people working in the back of an S-Class it is competitive door to door with the flight and better in bad weather; for a team in a Sprinter it is cheaper. A local chauffeur of the same standard takes the hourly day in Ottawa on the same account.
Winterlude, the Tulip Festival, Canada Day
Ottawa's three seasons of visitors from Toronto. Winterlude in February: the Rideau Canal Skateway, the ice sculptures at Confederation Park, the snow slides at Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau, BeaverTails on the canal - a weekend with two flat fares and a local chauffeur for the Saturday, the SUV for the 401 in February. The Canadian Tulip Festival in May: a million tulips at Commissioners Park and Dow's Lake, the Byward Market, a spring weekend. Canada Day on the Hill on 1 July: the biggest crowd in the country, road closures across the centre, and a local chauffeur who knows where the car can wait - book it in May. The Ottawa Tourism calendar and the National Capital Commission's event pages set the dates; the desk holds cars.
Universities and the family
uOttawa, Carleton, Algonquin College and the Royal Military College's Ottawa campus bring Toronto families east for move-in, convocation and open houses; the SUV with the student's things as a one-way flat fare, the Sprinter for the family at convocation, and the Kingston page has the move-in routine that is the same at every campus. A Thanksgiving or reading-week trip home for a first-year is a one-way each way.
The Ottawa day trip, if you insist
Nine hours on the road for a day in the capital is too much for most people, but a Sprinter of twelve on a school or association day trip does it: leave at 6, the Hill at 10:30, the War Museum or the National Gallery, lunch in the Byward Market, the Parliament tour at 2, home by 9. Twelve hours; the Sprinter page prices it per vehicle and the chauffeur's hours are planned to Ontario's rules with a relief driver where the day exceeds them. For everyone else, the overnight.
The overnight, and the chauffeur who stays
An hourly booking with the chauffeur staying overnight - a per-diem and the hotel on the confirmation - gives the same chauffeur and car at the Ottawa hotel's door at 8 am for the day's meetings and the drive home at 5. For a principal who wants that continuity it is the better service; for most trips the two flat fares plus a local chauffeur for the day are cheaper, and the desk says which. The multi-day page covers the version where the visit is a week.
The car
The Mercedes S-Class for one to three who will work for four and a half hours: reclining seats, a quiet cabin, the briefing read by Kingston. The Executive Sedan for the same drive at the lower rate. The Luxury SUV for a family, luggage, a student's move-in and any drive between November and April. The Executive Sprinter for a delegation or a team of seven to twelve, cheaper per seat than the train door to door and with the meeting held on the way. The fleet page has capacities.
Ottawa and Montreal in one trip
Toronto to Ottawa Monday, Ottawa to Montreal Tuesday (two hours on the 417 and the 40), Montreal to Toronto Wednesday: three one-way flat fares on one account, with local chauffeurs of the same standard for the hourly days in each capital through the network. The Montreal page covers the third leg and the Canada hub how the standard travels.

Booking the Ottawa drive
Choose Route, the class, the Toronto and Ottawa addresses, the date and time, and confirm the fare; add the return as a second Route or call the desk for the overnight. For the Ottawa hourly day, the Ottawa city page explains the local booking on the same account. Book winter drives with a weather eye; Winterlude and Canada Day weekends a month ahead.
Ottawa's addresses, for the drop
Parliament Hill's visitor entrance is at the Wellington Street gate; the Wellington Building is at 180 Wellington; the Senate of Canada Building at 2 Rideau; the Supreme Court at 301 Wellington; the departments at Tunney's Pasture off Scott Street and at Place du Portage across the Portage Bridge in Gatineau; the Shaw Centre at 55 Colonel By Drive; the Chateau Laurier at 1 Rideau, with its car entrance on Mackenzie Avenue; the Westin at 11 Colonel By; the Lord Elgin at 100 Elgin; the National Gallery at 380 Sussex; the War Museum at 1 Vimy Place. Wellington Street between Bank and Elgin has been closed to through traffic since 2022 and the local chauffeur on the Ottawa city page knows the workarounds; a Toronto chauffeur arriving on a one-way is briefed by the desk.
Gatineau, and crossing the river
Half of federal Ottawa is in Gatineau, Quebec, across the Portage, Chaudière, Alexandra and Macdonald-Cartier bridges: Place du Portage, Terrasses de la Chaudière, the Canadian Museum of History, the Casino du Lac-Leamy and Gatineau Park's fall colours. A one-way from Toronto to a Gatineau address is priced the same way and the chauffeur crosses the river on the bridge the boards favour; Quebec's winter-tyre law applies from December and every vehicle complies from November.

Leave at 6, or at 10. The 401 east and the 416 are empty at 6 am and the Hill is reached by 10:30; or leave at 10 after the Toronto rush and arrive at 2:30 for an afternoon of meetings and a dinner in the Market. The 3 pm Friday departure that puts you on the 401 at Oshawa with everyone else is the one the chauffeur will talk you out of.
Ottawa: questions answered
How long is the drive from Toronto to Ottawa?
About four and a half hours off-peak, 450 km east on the 401 and north on the 416; five and a quarter on a Friday afternoon. Kingston is the lunch stop at two hours fifty. No tolls.
Is it better to drive or fly to Ottawa?
For one traveller in a hurry the flight usually wins. For two or three with luggage or a day's work to do, the drive is competitive door to door - about three hours by air with the airports against four and a half in the car - and better in bad weather. For a team in a Sprinter it is also cheaper.
Is the Ottawa drive a flat fare?
Yes - a one-way flat fare fixed by route and class with the car's return built in, and a second flat fare for the return days later. Or an overnight hourly booking with the chauffeur staying, where the desk says which is cheaper.
Can I book a chauffeur for my day in Ottawa?
Yes - a local chauffeur of the same standard on the same account through the network, booked by the hour for a day of meetings on the Hill and at Tunney's Pasture. The Ottawa city page has the local detail.
Do you do Winterlude and Canada Day weekends?
Yes - two flat fares and a local chauffeur for the Saturday, the SUV in February, and Canada Day booked in May because the centre closes to traffic and every car is reserved.
Which car for the drive?
The S-Class for one to three who will work; the sedan at the lower rate; the SUV for family, luggage, a move-in and winter; the Sprinter for a delegation of seven to twelve, cheaper per seat than the train.
Can we combine Ottawa and Montreal?
Yes - Toronto to Ottawa, Ottawa to Montreal on the 417 and the 40 (two hours), Montreal to Toronto, as three flat fares on one account with local chauffeurs in each city.
What about a snowstorm?
The 401 east of Cobourg and the 416 through Kemptville are the stretches that close; the dispatcher watches Ontario 511, the SUV has winter tyres, and a drive leaves early or waits. A storm cancels flights and merely slows a car; the fare does not change.

Hourly time starts at the pickup address, not at our garage. Garage travel, where it applies, is shown at booking in 30-minute blocks - never a surprise on the invoice.
Overtime rounds to the hour
Run past the reserved block and the extra time is billed to the next full hour at the same rate, with tax and gratuity as on the original booking.
Waiting is included
Hourly means the car waits. The meeting that runs long, the dinner that runs late, the second stop you did not plan - the chauffeur is outside, the clock simply continues.

LimousineWorldwide.Directory
Our listing in the worldwide directory is how a Toronto client who keeps a chauffeur by the hour here can do the same in Vancouver, London or Dubai through a vetted operator. Every Canadian city and every country on this site is served through that network.

LimousineAssociation.International
Membership commits us to the association's standards on licensing, commercial insurance, vehicle inspection and chauffeur conduct - the things a passenger cannot check from the back seat during a ten-hour day.

HotelsWorldwide.Directory
Our membership of the hotels directory links the car to the bed: concierges and hotel teams across the directory find a vetted Toronto chauffeur in one place, and our clients find the hotel at the far end of the drive - Yorkville, the airport strip, Niagara-on-the-Lake or Muskoka.

VacationsWorldwide.Directory
Membership of the vacations directory puts our day trips - Niagara, the wineries, Muskoka, Blue Mountain, Prince Edward County - in front of travellers planning the whole holiday, with the tours, resorts and activities around them listed alongside.
