What 'town car' means in Toronto

Town car is the older name for the same product the rest of this site calls a black car: a chauffeured full-size sedan booked in advance at a flat fare, the vehicle Toronto's corporate travellers and airport regulars have used since the Lincoln Town Car gave the category its name. Lincoln stopped building the Town Car in 2011, but Toronto kept the phrase, and thousands of people a month still search for a town car to Pearson, a town car service downtown, a town car by the hour. This page is for them, and the answer is: yes, that is what we do, in the cars that replaced the Lincoln.

The Executive Sedan class - Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6, Lincoln Continental or similar - is the town car of 2026: three passengers, two large bags and two carry-ons, leather, quiet, black, with a chauffeur in a suit, at a flat fare by address or a flat rate by the hour. The Mercedes S-Class is the town car for the client who wants the flagship; the Luxury SUV is the town car with a boot big enough for a family. The fleet page has the detail; each class is 'or similar' per our terms.

The town car to the airport

The most-booked town car ride in Toronto: any address in the city or the GTA to Pearson Terminal 1 or 3 at a flat fare set by address and class before the car moves, with the flight tracked on arrivals, thirty minutes of waiting on domestic flights and forty-five on international per our terms, the chauffeur at the pre-arranged pickup area or inside with a name board as the meet-and-greet add-on. No meter, so the 401 at 5 pm costs nothing extra; no surge, so a snowstorm at Pearson does not triple the fare. The Pearson page has the terminal detail and the Billy Bishop page the island airport, which is a ten-minute town car ride from King West.

The town car across the city

Hotel to the Convention Centre. Office to a client in Mississauga or Markham. Yorkville to a dinner on King West and, later, home. A witness to the courthouse. A guest to the gala. Each is a flat fare by address, booked as a Route in the reservation engine, with the plate texted before pickup. For two or more rides with a wait between them, the town car by the hour is the better booking, and the next section explains.

The town car by the hour

The same sedan and chauffeur for a block - three hours minimum - with unlimited stops and all waiting included at a flat hourly rate. It is the product this site is built around, and every page of the hourly hub is a town car by the hour under another name: the half-day of meetings, the evening out, the medical afternoon, the full day out to Niagara. The hourly pillar explains the rules and the rates page the number.

Town car service in Toronto is a chauffeured full-size sedan at a flat fare - the product the Lincoln Town Car named and the Mercedes E-Class, Cadillac CT6 and Lincoln Continental now provide. It is booked by the trip (Pearson, Billy Bishop, across the city, fare fixed by address) or by the hour (three-hour minimum, stops and waiting included), with a licensed chauffeur, no meter and no surge.

What replaced the Lincoln Town Car

The Lincoln Town Car was the industry's sedan from 1981 to 2011 because it was large, durable, cheap to run and had a trunk that took four suitcases. Nothing replaced it exactly. Toronto's livery fleets moved to the Lincoln MKT and then the Continental, the Cadillac XTS and then the CT6, the Chrysler 300, and increasingly the Mercedes E-Class and S-Class; the full-size SUV - Escalade, Navigator, Suburban - took over the luggage-heavy airport work the Town Car used to do. Our Executive Sedan class is 'or similar' across those models because the car sent is the nearest of the class; what is constant is the standard - late-model, black, leather, detailed, commercially insured, City-plated - and the chauffeur.

The town car and Toronto's licensing

Under the City of Toronto's vehicle-for-hire bylaw, a town car is a limousine: a pre-arranged, non-metered vehicle with a limousine plate, a licensed limousine driver, an annual inspection and commercial passenger insurance, distinct from a taxi (metered, hailable) and from a private-transportation-company vehicle (app-dispatched). The distinction matters for the client in one way: a town car cannot legally be hailed or metered, so its fare must be agreed before the trip - which is the flat-fare promise this site makes on every page. Ontario's Highway Traffic Act and commercial vehicle rules set the inspection and hours-of-service standards beneath the bylaw.

Town car versus taxi versus ride-app

A Toronto taxi is metered and hailable and cannot surge; it cannot be booked with certainty for 5 am and does not wait. A ride-app car is dispatched on demand at a demand-set price; it may be a fine car and a fine driver and it may be twenty minutes away at 1 am. A town car is a contract: a named chauffeur, a specified class, a fare fixed by address, at the door at the time. For a single short ride off-peak, the app is cheaper. For the 5 am Pearson run from Oakville, the 1 am pickup from a Vaughan wedding, the client you are hosting or the parent you are responsible for, the town car is the certain one. The comparison page prices four real days both ways.

Corporate town car service

The town car is the corporate account's basic unit: the Pearson run, the Billy Bishop run, the client transfer, the executive's hourly day, on account with the fares on file and one monthly invoice by traveller and cost centre. The corporate accounts page explains the account and the executive car service page the service.

Town car service in the GTA

Flat fares by address from every part of the city and the 905 - Etobicoke and Mississauga beside the airport, North York and Scarborough, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham up the 400 and the 404, Oakville and Burlington down the QEW, Ajax-Pickering and Whitby-Oshawa out the 401, Newmarket-Aurora and Brampton - and the hourly rate the same everywhere, with garage travel shown at booking where an early or late pickup is far from the yard. Each area page has the local detail.

The town car out of the city

One way to Ottawa, Montreal, Kingston, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, Buffalo and Detroit at a flat fare - the city-to-city page prices it against the hourly alternative - or by the hour for the day to Niagara and back.

Booking a town car

Choose Route for a flat-fare trip or By the hour for a block, the class, the addresses, the date and time, and the flight number if there is one; confirm the fare or rate shown. Or call the desk, any hour. A weekday sedan the same day is usually possible; a 5 am Pearson run should be booked the evening before; peak weeks need more. The plate is texted before every pickup.

The town car at Toronto's hotels

The hotels' car-service entrances are where most town car rides begin: the Fairmont Royal York on Front, the Ritz-Carlton on Wellington, the Shangri-La and the St. Regis on Adelaide, the Four Seasons on Yorkville Avenue, the Hazelton on Hazelton Avenue, the Park Hyatt on Avenue Road, the King Edward on King East, the Thompson and the Hotel X on the waterfront, the Westin Harbour Castle on Queens Quay, and the airport hotels on Dixon Road. The plate is texted and the chauffeur is at the right door, not the taxi rank. The Yorkville and downtown area pages list them with the doors.

The 5 am town car

The town car's finest hour is the one when nothing else is reliable: the 5 am pickup in Oakville or Richmond Hill for a 7 am international departure, when a ride-app in the suburbs is a twenty-minute gamble and a taxi must be called and hoped for. Booked the evening before, at a flat fare with garage travel shown, the town car is outside at 4:55 with the plate texted. It is a large part of why the product exists and the reason the desk answers at 4 am.

What to tell the desk

The addresses, the date and time, the flight number if there is one, the number of passengers and bags, and anything unusual - a child seat, a wheelchair, a dog, a name board. The fare is on the confirmation; the plate is on the text; the rest is the chauffeur's job, and the desk is on the phone at any hour if something changes.

The word does not change the price. Town car, black car, sedan, executive car, limo - Toronto uses them all for the same chauffeured sedan at the same flat fare. Ask for a town car and you get the Executive Sedan class and the rules on this page; ask for any of the others and you get the same. The chauffeur service page is the overview.

FAQ

Town car service Toronto: questions answered

What is a town car service?

A chauffeured full-size sedan booked in advance at a flat fare - the product the Lincoln Town Car named. In Toronto today it is the Executive Sedan class (Mercedes E-Class, Cadillac CT6, Lincoln Continental or similar) with a licensed chauffeur, no meter and no surge.

How much is a town car to Pearson?

A flat fare set by your address, the terminal and the vehicle class, shown in the reservation engine before you confirm. It includes flight tracking on arrivals and thirty minutes of waiting on domestic flights, forty-five on international. No meter, no surge.

Do you still have Lincoln Town Cars?

Lincoln stopped building them in 2011. The Executive Sedan class that replaced them - E-Class, CT6, Continental or similar - is the same standard: late-model, black, leather, detailed, commercially insured and City-plated.

Can I book a town car by the hour?

Yes - three-hour minimum, unlimited stops, all waiting included, at a flat hourly rate. It is the product this site is built around; the hourly hub has fourteen shapes of it.

Is a town car a limousine under Toronto's bylaw?

Yes. The City licenses town cars as limousines: pre-arranged, non-metered, with a limousine plate, a licensed driver, an annual inspection and commercial insurance. That is why the fare is always fixed before the trip.

Do you serve the whole GTA?

Yes, with flat fares by address from every part of the city and the 905 and the same hourly rate everywhere; garage travel is shown at booking where an early or late pickup is far from the yard.

What is the difference between a town car and Uber?

A town car is a contract - a named chauffeur, a specified class, a fare fixed by address, at the door at the time. Uber is a ride dispatched on demand at a demand-set price. For a single off-peak ride the app is cheaper; for the 5 am airport run or the 1 am pickup the town car is the certain one.

Can a company book town cars on account?

Yes. Fares on file, traveller profiles, bookings by the assistant and one monthly invoice by traveller and cost centre. The corporate accounts page explains the setup.

How hourly works

Four rules. No small print.

The hourly minimums are the ones printed in our terms; the rate for each class is quoted live by the reservation engine for your date. The rates page explains what moves it.

  • 3hExecutive Sedan, Luxury Sedan, SUV
  • 3hStretch Limousine, Economy Van
  • 5hExecutive Sprinter, Stretch SUV, Coach, Limo/Party Bus

3-hour minimum

Sedans and SUVs book from three hours; Sprinters and coaches from five. After the minimum, time is billed by the hour.

The clock runs from your door

Hourly time starts at the pickup address, not at our garage. Garage travel, where it applies, is shown at booking in 30-minute blocks - never a surprise on the invoice.

Overtime rounds to the hour

Run past the reserved block and the extra time is billed to the next full hour at the same rate, with tax and gratuity as on the original booking.

Waiting is included

Hourly means the car waits. The meeting that runs long, the dinner that runs late, the second stop you did not plan - the chauffeur is outside, the clock simply continues.

Toronto & the GTA

Seventeen areas. One hourly rate.

The clock starts at your door whether that door is on Bay Street, in Yorkville, in Oakville or in Newmarket. Pick the area for the local detail - garage time, venues, the roads that matter.
